As of the 19th February 2010 the Federal Government announced the immediate close of both the Home Insulation Program and the Solar Hot Water Rebate Program. These programs have been replaced by the Renewable Energy Bonus Scheme.

Under the Renewable Energy Bonus Scheme eligible households will be able to receive a rebate of up to $1000 for the installation of Ceiling Insulation or a Solar Hot Water System, and up to $600 for the installation of a Heat Pump Hot Water system.

Householders will be required to pay upfront for the product and installation costs and then claim the rebates back through the Medicare system.

The Hot Water component of the scheme commenced immediately. The ceiling insulation component of the scheme is expected to commence on the 1st June.
